Semifinals - Division A: Grades 1-3
Beacons 12, Anchors 6
The Beacons and Anchors matched up for the third time this season. They tied earlier in the season and this game was once again a close game that came down to the wire. The Anchors built an early lead on Deonne Sentz's touchdown pass to Peyton Wilson. Trailing 0-6 at the half, the Beacons made a late-game comeback when Ben Fazekas intercepted an Anchor pass for a score. On the final play of the game, Katharina Niehaus connected with Ben on a short route before he scored on yards after the catch to win the game. The Beacons advanced to the Championship game versus the Lighthouses while the Anchors match up against the Sails.
Lighthouses 33, Sails 6
The Lighthouses continued their winning streak and defeated the Sails after building a 21-0 halftime lead. Bryce Gillispie passed several touchdowns to Isaac Gray and Brayden McCarthy connected with Mitch McGuire for another score. The Sails did score in the second half when Landon Carroll scrambled away from a Lighthouse blitz for a touchdown. The Lighthouses advanced to the Championship game while the Sails take on the Anchors.
Finals - Division A: Grades 1-3
Beacons 13, Lighthouses 6
The Beacons followed through with the underdog story against the Lighthouses in the Finals. Bryce Gillispie and Isaac Gray connected once again in the first half. However, Katharina Niehaus delivered a touchdown pass to Ben Fazekas and again on the conversion to take a 7-6 lead. Katharina and Ben connected in the fourth quarter to take the lead for good. The Lighthouses made a comeback attempt on the final possession, but Mathew Wank made a clutch tackle to force the turnover on downs and then made a first down to ice the game for the Championship game. The Lighthouses had a great season and had not yet lost. They should be proud of their efforts this year.
Division B: Grades 4-6
Mariners 6, Captains 0
The Mariners' lone score was all they needed to top the Captains in this defensive clinic. Aidan Coulter's touchdown pass to Nick Mechenbier proved enough to win the title. Both teams played tough defense down the stretch and prevented each other from scoring in the second half. The Captains' Emily Mechenbier, Isaac Maldonado, Donovan Fogle, Liam Greene, and Govani Fogle defended the Mariners well after allowing the only score of the game. The Mariners' championship efforts on defense did not go unnoticed, as Nick, Aidan, Nathan Jarvis, Cale Milliman, and Bram Miles-Sanchez prevented their opponents from reaching the endzone. This game lived up to the adage that "defense wins championships!"
