Anchors 19, Lighthouses 6
Riley Pruey connected with Jaxon Lewis on a short route and Jaxon ran the rest of the way to put the Anchors ahead by 6. Riley then completed the conversion to Gabriel McKinney for the point after touchdown that increased the lead to 7. The Lighthouses defense stood strong the rest of the half. The Lighthouses came out strong in the second half when Teagan Joles passed a touchdown to Wilkin Santana to make the score 7-6. The Anchors’ Izayah Vilagi defended the conversion. The Anchors’ responded to the Lighthouses’ score when Riley passed another touchdown to Jaxon to increase the lead to 13-6. Brayden McCarthy, Alexander Santana, and Brody Smith played tough defense for the remainder of the quarter and into the fourth. The Anchors scored on their final possession when Calvin Gray threw a pass to Jaxon, who bobbled and caught the ball for the final score of the game. The Anchors start the season with a win while the Lighthouses look to bounce back next week.
Beacons 12, Sails 0
Declan Bright threw a short pass over the middle to Mathew Wank and Mathew did the rest with his running abilities for the first score of the game and a Beacon 6-0 lead. The Sails’ defense clamped down for the rest of the first half with tight coverage by Liam Vale, Landon Rexrode, and Mitch McGuire. The Sails’ offense responded with some long drives when Bryson Janke connected with Cooper Hambor three different times. The Sails’ valiant efforts did not go unnoticed! However, the Beacons’ defense held strong with help from Gannon Michalski, Daniel Braun, and Kavryn Koran. The Beacons added another score when Declan hit Mathew for another long score to extend the lead to 12. The Beacons start the year with a win while the Sails look to rebound next week.
Grades 4-6
Mariners 26, Admirals 7
The Admirals and Mariners squared off in the first game of the season. The Mariners’ offense capitalized on their first possession when Zackary Haynes connected with Mitch Bukovac on a deep route over the middle for the opening score and a 6-0 lead. The Admirals responded with a Bryce Gillispie to Peyton Kallay touchdown to even the score. The Admirals took the lead when Bryce hit Aiden Coulter over the middle for the conversion and a 7-6 lead. The Admirals momentum continued when Ben Fazekas intercepted a Mariner pass. However, the Mariners’ resiliency was on full display when Mitch intercepted an Admiral pass to reclaim possession of the football. Zackary then threw for score to Connor Englebrecht for the third lead change of the game and a 12-7 lead at the half. The Admiral defense played well to defend the Mariners’ opening possession as Bryce, Domanick Fletcher, and Kacen Koran defended several Mariner passes. The Mariners’ closed out the final quarter with two more Zackary touchdown passes, one to Tyson Sherwood and another to Mitch. Tyson intercepted an Admiral pass. Andrew Butterfield, Samuel Jablonski, and Cole Clair added defensive value to the Mariner defense. The Mariners prevailed with a 26-7 win over a strong Admiral team that looks to bounce back next week.
Captains 20, Navigators 18
The Captains and Navigators squared off in a back-and-forth game full of excitement to open the season. The Captains earned a 6-0 lead when Chloe Pruey connected with Eric McCulley for the first Captains’ first touchdown of the year. The Navigators responded with a score of their own when Liam Greene found Ben Allen in the end zone to even the score at 6-6. The Captains’ Kameron Leftwich intercepted a Navigator pass and returned it for a score to reclaim the lead. Eric and Kameron connected for the successful conversion before the half expired. The Navigators responded in the second half when Ben connected with Liam for another score to get within two points. Vinny Phelps, Vinnie Catri, Julia Allen, and Evan Murphy made some great defensive stops for the Navigators to get the ball back. Ben intercepted a Captain pass to take the lead 18-14 in the fourth quarter. However, the Captains rallied when Eric passed for a touchdown to Kameron to take a 20-18 lead. Cale Milliman intercepted a Navigator pass to seal the victory. Issac Gray and Brooke Chloey played strong defensive games for the Captains. The Captains start the year with an exciting win while the Navigators look to rebound next week.
