Division A: Grades 1-3
Anchors 34, Sails 20
The Anchors sought redemption after losing their opener last week. The Anchors scored first with a pair of Deonnie Sentz’s touchdown passes and conversions to Peyton Wilson They were in a tight back and forth game in the first half. But the Sails responded with Landon Carroll’s touchdown pass to Cooper Hambor to make the halftime score 15-8. The Anchors separated in the third quarter with a Peyton Wilson interception return for a touchdown. Deonnie Sentz and Peyton Wilson connected two more times for scores and Carter Matsko converted for the point after attempt. The Sails did not give up when Landon Carroll both ran and passed for a score to Camden Metcalf. Camden also scored a defensive safety on a blitz.
Lighthouses 26, Beacons 0
The Lighthouses and Beacons were in a defensive battle in the first half. Both team’s defenses brought their best this week. The Lighthouses’ Bryce Gillispie intercepted two Beacons’ passes for scores in the first half to make the score 12-0 at the half. Bryce later intercepted another pass for a score in the second half and also threw a touchdown pass to Isaac Gray. The Beacon’s defense of Ben Fazekas, Declan Bright, Katharina Niehaus, Mathew Wank, and Kyle Bates only allowed one score to the Lighthouses. Brayden McCarthy, Mitch McGuire, and Wesley Henderson contributed to the Lighthouses defensive shutout.
Division B: Grades 4-6
Navigators 42, Admirals 22
The Navigators quickly scored when Greg Mechenbier threw four touchdown passes to Mitch Bukovac and Tyson Sherwood, who each scored twice. After a 24-0 lead at halftime, the Admirals stormed back in the third quarter. Zackary Haynes threw a touchdown to Diego Damboleena. Zackary then converted the two-point conversion with Ben Allen’s reception. Diego intercepted a Navigators’ pass for another score and received the two-point conversion from Zackary. The Admirals were only down by 2 points at the start of the fourth quarter. However, the Navigators regrouped and would go on to score on Greg’s passes to Mitch and Andrew Butterfield.
Mariners 14, Captains 6
The Mariners and Captains brought their best today on the defensive side of the ball. The Mariners scored in the first half on Nick Mechenbier’s touchdown pass to Aidan Coulter. Nick also intercepted a Captains’ pass for another score before the half. The Captains came back to score in the second half with Emily Mechenbier’s pass to Isaac Maldonado. The Captains nearly landed the comeback when Donovan Fogle’s long reception from Emily came up 1 yard short. The Captains displayed great effort and teamwork to the end. The Mariners’ defensive efforts proved just enough to secure the victory, led by Nick, Aidan, Nathan Jarvis, Cale Milliman, and Bram Miles-Sanchez. The Captain defense allowed only one score on the day, led by Emily, Isaac, Donovan, Liam Greene, and Govani Fogle.
